Reflection

1) What you have learnt in Semester 2 ?

I have learnt how to use sketch up even more compared in secondary 1 as those were just simple shapes. I also have learned how to create a attractive and fun presentation board and also how to look for a good design that fits your idea.

2) Difficulties encountered

I had some difficulties trying to handle with sketch up at first since it was a huge leap compared in secondary 1.

3) How do you overcome them?

I looked around for videos on youtube and also getting assistance from my peers.

4) How do you think you can do better?

I think that if I had more time, I would be able to do a better job at Sketchup. I also feel that my research potion for my journal isn't very good, so I would improve on that

Elderly Shopping Centre

i) A brief write up of what is the purpose of the building and the concept behind the design.

The purpose of the building is to allow elderly's to enjoy their retirement days in this shopping and recreation centre. Elderly's are one of the people that has the most time on their hands and yet unsure of how to make use of it. They can join this centre and make friends, join activities and shop.

The concept is that each level is categories so that the elderly would be clearing on where they would be able to find what they want easily. Like for example, the basement is for keeping fit with a swimming pool and a gym. It is modern and also easy to identify.

What makes a good Architectural Design?

There is no definitely answer for a good design. I think that it should convey the message of how the designer wanted the building to be like. The Artistic aspects and self-expression, The structural, functional and material honesty design value, The simplicity and minimalism design value, The social change design value are also the important aspect of a good design.

One example is the Singapore Pavilion from ShangHai Expo:
